Background & Rationale
CM Punjab Solar Panel Scheme July 2025 Update
The power-sector ills in Punjab (high-variable tariffs, frequent feeder-level power failures, and spiraling grid losses) were the need of the hour and is why, the cabinet (March 2024) has given nod to a new subsidised rooftop solar program, with a priority on low-consumption households (<100 units/ month). Following a successive limited pilot of 50,000 houses, the programme was expanded in early-2025, carried on the wings of financing provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), as well as an Asian Development Bank-sponsored green-energy component of the World Bank-based PACE loan.
